One Hundred and Nine: Shoes

I can’t believe that I’ve never written this reason post before. I mean, c’mon, shoes, how could I not have put this one down yet??? I know someone who loves Jeffery West shoes and I think they’re cool. I know someone who buys a new pair of shoes whenever they need a pick me up. I know someone who has boxes and boxes of shoes, most of them rarely worn. Shoes. Do we need a reason to get shoes??? However many we buy, there are never enough.

There is a poem I grew up with that I went looking for. I came across this one which is only the beginning. I can’t remember how it continues on…

Choosing Shoes

by Frida Wolfe

New shoes, new shoes,
Red and pink and blue shoes.
Tell me, what would you choose,
If they’d let us buy?

Buckle shoes, bow shoes,
Pretty pointy-toe shoes,
Strappy, cappy low shoes;
Let’s have some to try.

Bright shoes, white shoes,
Dandy-dance-by-night shoes,
Perhaps-a-little-tight shoes,
Like some? So would I.

Flat shoes, fat shoes,
Stump-along-like-that shoes,
Wipe-them-on-the-mat shoes,
That’s the sort they’ll buy.

Shoes….. One hundred and nine.

Do we need a reason to buy shoes, or is shoes a reason in and of itself???

So long as there’s life, there’s hope.

  1. hey eliza, please don’t hate me… or maybe as could be expected, i’d rather have no shoes at all. maybe a pair of sandles for outside occasionally and some warm slippers for a cold morning…

    thats just me….

  2. What is with the shoe obsession? I have never dealt with this, I have only read about it, mainly in over the top shidduchim stories in the Mishpacha.

Now if we’re talking about accessories and make-up, that would be another story by me :)

    1. This made me laugh.
So your makeup? That’s my shoes. Although I need more eye-shadow…. it’s all just so expensive (I can’t get cheap stuff, I’ve been through so many brands by now, they all irritate my skin)

        1. I use Clinique and Estee Lauder primarily but want to find some different stuff. Eyeliner/mascara is the worst one and I need some different to try. It hurts almost every time I put it on (read daily).

  3. My sister has over 100 pairs of shoes because her husband is also so into it I don’t really understand why they have to buy a lot ? anyway, maybe shoes itself is enough reason why. Lovely poem, Eliza. Thought provoking post!

I'd love to hear your thoughts
